What is Rachel Joyce Organic Salon’s COVID-19 protocol?

We have and will always be,  By Appointment Only. Here is a brief overview of some changes that we have enforced to prevent spread of the Corona virus:

  • We operate at 50% maximum capacity in the salon to maintain physical distance while in the salon.
  • We’ve made protective gear available for guests and staff (such as masks, gloves, face shields(for staff)) .  All persons in the salon must wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth at all times.
  • We use high quality EPA approved disinfectants and cleaning agents to sanitize between each guest.
  • Will temporarily discontinue hair services that require dryer processing time for more than
    30 minutes to prevent overheating while wearing mask.
  • We ask that guests do not arrive early as the waiting area is closed.
  • Sanitize or wash hands after entering the salon.
  • Read and confirm our COVID questionnaire by clicking here at least 24 hours before appointment and at salon

Do service include a wash?

Yes, all hair services include a wash (shampoo and conditioning) except for consultations.

Do you offer natural hair styling (braids, twists, cornrows)?

Yes. Please see our service menu for details. If you want a specific style, please send a photo to and we can get back to you to confirm the service and pricing details.

Do you offer relaxers?

Yes, we use Phyto Specific Relaxer. It is soy based and doesn’t have a strong smell. It is the most gentle and effective relaxer that we’ve used.

Do you offer Keratin Treatments?

Yes, we use the Cezanne keratin treatment. It is not a straightening treatment, but it helps to strengthen your hair, reduce frizz, and overall make your mane more manageable. Transform your frizzy, difficult, kinky, curly hair into soft, manageable, beautiful locks. Reduce your drying and styling time by client reported 33-50%. Enjoy no wait time to wash, color, workout or pull back with clips or a ponytail! You’ll leave the salon looking fantastic with completely wearable hair.

Do you start locs?

We offer single/double strand twists that you can use to lock your hair, however we don’t offer loc start services specifically.

If I come with my hair washed is the service price cheaper?

No. Additionally, the stylist may have to wash your hair regardless of at home care.

Do I need my hair straightened to get a trim?

If your hair is longer than 2 inches and curly, the best way to get a healthy trim is to at least have your hair blow dried prior to trimming. If you don’t, you’re going to have far too many split ends remaining after the trim, which is why we require it. Having your hair flat ironed is not a requirement, however some individuals prefer to have their hair pressed prior to the trim.

Can I bring my own products?

No. However, if you have a prescription, please send an e-mail to for consideration. 

What products do you use?

We primarily use Organic Colour Systems for color and Organic Way and Original and Mineral -O & M for shampooing, conditioning, and styling. 

Do you service children?

Yes. As long as your child can be relatively still and follow basic instructions from the styling staff, we’re more than happy to accommodate. We encourage a consultation prior to the visit date to help your child get familiar with the facility.

Does your salon have parking?

While we don’t have a dedicated parking lot, there is street parking and garage parking in Adams Morgan.

Do you take walk-ins?

99% of our services rendered come from appointments. However, we do take walk in customers if there is availability.

Why do I have to pay a deposit for a chemical service?

Our non-toxic chemical services do require several service hours to complete.  If these services are cancelled less than 24 hours before the reservation date we may not be able to fill in the time slot.  The $50 + deposit  ensures security in case we are unable to fill the spot due to a last minute cancellation.  Deposits are applied towards service(s) and are refundable if appointment is cancelled within 24 hours.  

Why can’t I book color services online besides grey coverage?

We require consultations for highlights and double process color services. We’ve also found that individuals generally aren’t 100% certain what category their service falls into unless it is for grey coverage. You can send a picture of your current hair color and the desired outcome to to start the conversation. Alternatively, you can schedule for something more routine and discuss the look you’re trying to achieve with your stylist.
